Fidelity Investments, a leading financial services provider, has updated its application for an Ether (ETH) exchange-traded fund (ETF), signaling a step forward in the mainstream adoption of cryptocurrencies.

In a filing dated June 21 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Fidelity disclosed significant amendments to its Form S-1 Registration Statement, a crucial document for publicly offering investment products.

Key updates include FMR Capital, a Fidelity affiliate, purchasing 125,000 shares at $38 each to seed the ETF's portfolio, totaling $4.7 million. This initial investment allowed the acquisition of 1,250 Ether (ETH) units, further solidifying Fidelity's commitment to launching a robust Ether ETF product.

Notably, Fidelity clarified its stance on ETH staking, confirming that the ETF will not participate in Ethereum's proof-of-stake mechanism to earn additional coins or generate income from its holdings. This decision marks a departure from earlier proposals, reflecting adjustments made to align with regulatory guidelines and investor expectations.

In parallel developments, Bitwise updated its SEC proposal on June 19, revealing plans for a substantial $100 million investment from Pantera Capital upon the ETF's launch. Meanwhile, Hashdex, another contender in the ETF space, recently proposed a combined Bitcoin and Ether ETF on the Nasdaq exchange, pivoting from earlier plans focused solely on Ether.
