According to data from Arkham Intelligence, Mt. Gox appears to have moved at least 42,830 BTC, valued at around $2.9 billion, from its cold wallets. This transfer was made in multiple transactions to an unknown address as of 11:00 am Hong Kong time on Tuesday, marking the first such movement in five years from Mt. Gox's wallets. Currently, Mt. Gox still holds approximately $9.42 billion worth of bitcoin in its known wallets as tracked by Arkham.

In September 2023, the trustee of Mt. Gox announced an extension of the repayment deadline to October 31, 2024. However, there has been no immediate response from the Mt. Gox trustee regarding this matter.

Established in 2010, Mt. Gox grew to become the largest bitcoin exchange globally by 2013, handling around 70% of all bitcoin trades. However, it ceased all withdrawals in early 2014, leading to the suspension of trading operations. Subsequently, the platform went offline, and the company filed for bankruptcy protection after losing more than 800,000 bitcoins.
