Binance's co-founder and former CEO, Changpeng 'CZ' Zhao, submitted a letter of apology to the court on April 24, expressing remorse ahead of his upcoming sentencing.

Admitting guilt to criminal charges earlier this year, Zhao took responsibility for his actions, acknowledging his failure to implement compliance changes at Binance promptly. He highlighted the subsequent introduction of "stringent" controls under his leadership.

Zhao voluntarily surrendered and expressed a desire to resolve the matter before the court to have a chance to start anew. He assured that such occurrences would not repeat and shared insights into his unconventional career path and altruistic aspirations, aiming to fund small biotech labs and youth-related causes.

Several individuals, including family, friends, Binance employees, and industry and government officials, submitted letters of support, depicting Zhao as a committed CEO with integrity and a sense of responsibility. Although some letters advocated for leniency, Zhao himself did not explicitly request a reduced sentence.

The US Department of Justice seeks a 36-month prison term and $50 million in fines against Zhao.
