In his newly established role as the Global Head of Capacity Building, Lee will collaborate with regulators, law enforcement agencies, tax authorities, and financial institutions. His objective is to provide guidance on enhancing their capabilities to combat crypto-related crimes using the data and tools offered by Chainalysis.

Lee recently concluded his tenure with the IRS in March, serving as the Chief of IRS-CI for three years and accumulating 29 years of dedicated service with the agency. During his leadership, IRS-CI successfully dismantled Hydra, a darknet marketplace, and confiscated cryptocurrency assets linked to Hamas.

Additionally, Lee spearheaded the dismantling of Welcome to Video, a darknet platform facilitating the distribution of child sexual abuse materials (CSAM) and accepting cryptocurrency payments. As a result of this operation, 23 children were rescued, and 337 individuals involved in child abuse were apprehended.

Chainalysis played a pivotal role in all three cases mentioned.

"Cryptocurrency represents the future of finance, and consequently, it also represents the future landscape of criminal activities," Lee articulated in a blog post on Chainalysis' website. He emphasized that the aforementioned cases underscore the utilization of cryptocurrency for various illicit purposes.

"However, by empowering law enforcement agencies with cutting-edge tools and comprehensive data analysis capabilities, we can safeguard the integrity of the crypto ecosystem. This ensures that individuals worldwide can reap the benefits of cryptocurrency without fear of exploitation by criminal elements," Lee affirmed.
