2024 has been a successful year for the FTSE MIB index, with a positive trend that started in 2020 continuing to soar. It reached a high of €3,350 in March, a significant rise from its low of €2,940 in January and a huge leap from its pandemic low of €1,359.

Italy's economy has been thriving, which has greatly contributed to the strong performance of the FTSE MIB index. Recent data shows that the Italian economy expanded by 0.5% in Q4’23, surpassing major European countries like Germany and France.

Inflation in Italy has been decreasing steadily, with headline inflation reported at 1.3% in February, lower than the anticipated 1.4%. This inflation rate is below the ECB's target of 2.0%.

The country has also seen significant inflows from foreign investors and the European Union, with over €102 billion received from the EU Covid-19 recovery fund. U.S. investors have also increased their investments in Italian equities, considering them to be undervalued.

Italian stocks are not the only ones thriving, as seen in the record high of the DAX index in Germany and the soaring CAC 40 index in France. The FTSE MIB index's surge has been broad-based, with a majority of companies showing an uptrend.

Iveco Group, a prominent bus and truck manufacturer, has been the top performer in the FTSE MIB index this year, registering a nearly 70% increase. On the other hand, Leonardo and Saipem have also seen substantial growth due to rising demand for their products.

Other notable performers in the FTSE MIB index include Unipol, Unicredit, Ferrari, and Banco Bpm, while Telecom Italia, Nexi, ERG, and A2A are among the laggards in the index.
