FTX, the now-defunct cryptocurrency exchange, is reportedly seeking to auction off its remaining Solana (SOL) token holdings, according to two sources familiar with the matter. As per Bloomberg, a "blind auction" is scheduled for this week, with a deadline of April 24 and the results expected to be announced the following day.

This move comes after FTX disclosed that it sold approximately $307.6 million worth of SOL and ZBC tokens in March, followed by a massive $1.9 billion sale of SOL tokens to entities including Mike Novogratz's Galaxy Trading and Pantera Capital on April 5. The total figures for April sales are yet to be disclosed.

Mike Cagney, CEO of Figure Markets, confirmed the upcoming auction, considering it an "investment opportunity" and intending to participate, raising funds for a special-purpose vehicle (SPV) to bid in the auction. Other potential bidders include Pantera Capital and Abra, with Abra CEO Bill Barhydt confirming their involvement. Pantera Capital is reportedly considering bidding directly or through an SPV.

These sales follow FTX's collapse in November 2022, with SOL constituting the majority of FTX's crypto holdings, as per filings from last year.

While retail investors may not directly benefit from the auction, some are eyeing potential profit opportunities from resulting price fluctuations. At the time of reporting, SOL was trading at $15.79, reflecting a 1.6% increase over the past 24 hours.

In a related development, FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried has agreed to participate in a class-action lawsuit involving FTX investors and celebrity endorsers of the platform. Bankman-Fried is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence for his role in the FTX collapse.
