Gala Games has recuperated approximately $22 million in Ether from the individual accountable for a May 20 "security incident," during which $200 million worth of Gala tokens were generated and a small fraction sold before the wallet was frozen.

On May 21, the perpetrator's wallet transferred back 5913.2 ETH, valued at $22.3 million, closely matching the market worth of the 600 million GALA tokens they offloaded the preceding day.

In a blog post on May 21, Gala stated that the ETH's restitution ensued following the team's "rapid, efficient response and the intervention of Federal law enforcement agencies."

Utilizing a new feature called "GalaChain's blocklist protocol," Gala managed to promptly freeze 4.4 billion GALA out of the 5 billion minted within a span of 45 minutes.

Eric Schiermeyer, Gala's co-founder and CEO, disclosed in a post on X and Discord on May 20 that the alleged perpetrator had been identified, along with "his home address."

While Gala Games has not officially disclosed the identity or methodology of the breach, certain members of the community allege that Gala implied the breach originated from a security contractor who erred by accessing the wallet without using a VPN.

In a Discord post, Schiermeyer suggested that the team intends to repurchase and eliminate an equivalent amount of GALA tokens using the recovered ETH.

"I don't see any other viable option with the eth," Schiermeyer remarked. "We will likely repurchase and eliminate on galaswap."

Simultaneously, a blog post from Gala Games hinted at a governance vote underway to determine whether the 4.4 billion blocklisted GALA tokens will be deemed "burned."

These developments unfold as DWF Labs disclosed its acquisition of 28 million GALA tokens in the open market to "stabilize the token's value."

"The security of our investments and their communities is paramount to us," the firm stated.

According to CoinGecko, GALA has experienced a 0.4% increase in the past 24 hours, reaching $0.043, marking a 9.3% surge over the previous seven days.
