Olliv, a global cryptocurrency ATM leader has expanded its cash-to-crypto services to South Africa with the launch of nine crypto ATMs in Johannesburg. In the past year, Olliv, known for its vast network of over 4,500 crypto ATMs plans to expand within South Africa, its first market on the continent, throughout 2023.

Nine crypto ATMs, also called Bitcoin kiosks, were installed in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng areas of Johannesburg, and are complemented by an over-the-counter (OTC) digital Order Desk service. The ATMs will allow users to purchase cryptocurrencies like Litecoin (LTC), Bitcoin (BTC), and Ethereum (ETH) with cash.

Olliv’s CEO and co-founder, Ben Weiss revealed that Olliv is thrilled to finally expand their services to South Africa. "Since the inception of Olliv, we've prioritized education and accessibility. We believe that anyone who is interested in crypto should be able to invest. We look forward to connecting consumers in the South Africa region with our award-winning customer service to make bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies easy to obtain," he said in a press release seen by NODO.

Since 2022, Olivv has begun a growth drive that saw it launch a self-custody crypto wallet in the United States and expand its footprints to multiple countries including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, South Africa, Panama, and Brazil.

According to Lloyd Lopes, Olliv’s Director for Africa, South Africa, consumer demand made South Africa a compelling market for the company to expand to. This is unsurprising as South Africa is one of the few countries in Africa where cryptocurrencies are legal and as of 2022, there are 5.8 million crypto owners in the country. “We are excited to provide an easy on-ramp to the digital economy while supporting the existing interest in crypto with the expansion of our Olliv kiosks and Order Desk.
