The digital currency revolution is advancing rapidly, with the global deployment of cryptocurrency ATMs surging by 17.8% over the past year to reach 38,279 machines, nearing the record high of 39,541 set in December 2022.

In 2024 alone, an impressive 2,564 new cryptocurrency ATMs were installed, marking a potential turnaround from the net decrease of 2,861 units in 2023, according to Coin ATM Radar. This increase in deployment signals a renewed growth phase in the crypto market, with installations consistently rising each month from July 2023 to May 2024.

Bitcoin Depot, Coinflip, and Athena Bitcoin lead the crypto ATM sector with 7,543, 5,057, and 2,756 machines deployed respectively. Bitcoin remains the most popular cryptocurrency transacted through these ATMs, followed closely by Bitcoin Cash, Ether, and Litecoin.

Geographically, 82% of the world's cryptocurrency ATMs are concentrated in the United States, while Canada holds the second position with a 7.7% share. Australia has seen a significant rise, increasing nearly seventeenfold in the past two years to reach 1,107 installations. Other countries with notable ATM expansions include Spain, Poland, El Salvador, Germany, and Hong Kong.

In contrast, between December 2022 and July 2023, the crypto ATM landscape experienced a sharp decline, reaching an 18-month low of 32,764 installations. BitAccess, a major crypto ATM manufacturer, played a key role in this decline, with its installations dropping by 26% from 9,160 in August 2022 to 6,774 in January 2024. However, the company has since rebounded, adding 1,208 new installations.
