The company formally withdrew the Grayscale Ethereum Futures Trust application with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on May 7, coinciding with the imminent decision date of May 30 on Grayscale's Ether futures ETF.

Originally submitted on September 19, 2023, Grayscale's 19b-4 proposal for an Ether futures ETF had set its sights on being listed on the New York Stock Exchange upon receiving approval. The shelving of this application has triggered inquiries, particularly in light of the exigent SEC deadline to rule on at least one spot Ether ETF application by May 23, barely over a fortnight away.

Bloomberg's esteemed ETF analyst, James Seyffart, had previously speculated that Grayscale might strategically deploy its Ether futures ETF as a maneuver to influence the SEC's verdict on its spot Ether ETF. However, the abrupt withdrawal of the application has left industry observers perplexed regarding Grayscale's motives and the potential repercussions on the broader ETF domain.
