Charles Hoskinson, the mind behind Cardano and CEO of IOHK, shared his thoughts on the launch of the community association PRAGMA.

In a statement on April 22, Hoskinson commended PRAGMA for its commitment to supporting Cardano-related projects, emphasizing the importance of having "multiple clients and a diverse and resilient ecosystem" for Cardano's success.

He also expressed excitement about seeing various groups come together to kickstart the development of these clients and projects.

Hoskinson admitted to being unaware of PRAGMA until recently and clarified that he hasn't formally engaged with the group on various matters. However, he acknowledged PRAGMA's role in enhancing Cardano's formal specifications by adding resilience and providing an additional layer of scrutiny.

Supporting the Cardano ecosystem

The Cardano Foundation unveiled PRAGMA on April 22, describing it as a nonprofit, open-source association dedicated to blockchain software development. Unlike a funding platform, PRAGMA expects participants to secure funding independently to ensure its sustainability in the long run.

PRAGMA comprises the Cardano Foundation and four other members: Blink Labs, dcSpark, Sundae Labs, and TxPipe. It's distinct from Intersect, another Cardano member-based organization, as PRAGMA focuses on open-source software development rather than governance.

Although PRAGMA and Intersect are different entities, they view their efforts as complementary and foresee potential collaboration in the future.

Initial projects receiving support

PRAGMA aims to bolster the Cardano ecosystem by hosting and supporting existing projects, fostering the development of new tools, and serving as a hub for blockchain endeavors.

Initially, PRAGMA will concentrate on two projects: Amaru, a Rust-based node for Cardano, and Aiken, a smart contract platform for Cardano.

By 2025, PRAGMA plans to expand its membership to selected members within the Cardano ecosystem and subsequently extend its reach to external blockchain ecosystems, indicating that its focus is not confined to Cardano alone.
