The concept of crypto airdrops began in 2014 with Auroracoin, a project aiming to be Iceland's national digital currency. And as at the time of writing this article the last one was $PORTAL airdrop by Portal Network, highlighting the ongoing evolution of airdrops.

Airdrop can be done by a protocol or blockchain. A protocol is small small projects that are building under a blockchain like ethereum and Solana. A blockchain is a large network where every project is built.

1. Retroactive Airdrop - Think of a retroactive airdrop as a thank you gift for early supporters who helped a project get off the ground. Projects might reward users who interacted with their platform before launch, like testing their website or playing their game and doing some social tasks.

2. Tesnet Airdrop - Testnet Airdrops let you test protocols without spending real money. You can learn about these protocols using testnet coins. Activities include trying out protocols, filling forms, testing dApps, and earning NFTs to show you took part. Some Testnet airdrops may ask for small fees (around $2-5) to cover network costs. Make sure to know all the details before participating.

3. Active wallet airdrop - airdrop you received for being active in their web3 platforms example, a project called celestia did this type of airdrop. It’s a reward you get for your on-chain activities; where you can bridge, trade, etc and still withdraw your money but your gas fee will be gone forever.

To farm airdrops, you need essential tools like:

Crypto Wallets:

→ Trust Wallet|Matamask - for EVM users(general wallets)

→ Phantom wallet - for Solana blockchain

→ Keplr wallet - Interchain transactions

→ Binance app - For selling your coins in the p2p market or vendors..

Social media accounts:

→ X Account (formerly Twitter)- X is like a crypto social platform.

→ Telegram Account - to enable you to join some crypto channels for insights on some projects.

→ Discord - Every crypto project out there, especially NFTs, has a discord app. It a social media for web3

→ Steam account - For participating in GamiFi projects.

Research tools

→ Coingecko and coinmarketcap- for in depth research and quick insights on the price of tokens, where you can buy, supply, all time high, all time low etc.

In addition, create a separate saving wallet that you don’t connect to any protocol, this should serve as a place where you can keep all your funds for security purposes.
