OpenAI is witnessing unprecedented demand for its ChatGPT product among enterprise users.

According to OpenAI Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap, the company has seen a surge in interest, with 600,000 individuals signing up for ChatGPT Enterprise.

Lightcap characterized this growth as "significant momentum" and dubbed 2024 as "the year of AI adoption in the enterprise."

Since the launch of ChatGPT Enterprise in August 2023, OpenAI has experienced a fourfold increase in its enterprise user base, rising from 150,000 in January.

While ChatGPT Enterprise offers a range of features, it also provides users with the option to exclude enterprise data from OpenAI training. This feature aligns with similar offerings found in competing products like Microsoft Copilot.

The inclusion of a confidentiality feature for enterprise clients underscores broader concerns regarding data access and potential content access violations.

Moreover, OpenAI's enterprise model highlights the compatibility of data privacy with licensed access to data. Lightcap emphasized efforts to establish licensing agreements between OpenAI and media companies, enabling the use of external data for training and in-app content.

OpenAI is actively pursuing such licensing agreements, with recent deals reported in France, Spain, and Germany, according to Bloomberg. Additionally, discussions with US firms, including CNN, Fox, and Time, are underway, as reported by Reuters in January. Lightcap expressed anticipation for increased licensing activity from OpenAI in the future.
