a bid to uphold its anti-money laundering law, India’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) has issued a notice to nine foreign-based cryptocurrency exchanges, recommending the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to block their online access points in the country.

The exchanges targeted in the move include Binance, Kucoin, Huobi, Kraken, Gate.io, Bittrex, Bitstamp, MEXC Global, and Bitfenex. These platforms have reportedly been running their operations in India in breach of the nation’s anti-money laundering legislation.

The notice served by FIU, which operates under the Indian Finance Ministry, accuses these crypto exchanges of illegally operating in the country. The FIU’s measure is part of a broader compliance action against offshore entities. The implicated exchanges are accused of violating section 13 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.
