In a significant milestone, India's digital payments have surpassed those of Europe and North America combined, according to recent research. This achievement marks a new high for India's digital payments landscape, which has been growing rapidly in recent years.

The research, conducted by Capgemini, highlights India's Unified Payment Interface (UPI) as a key driver of this growth. UPI, introduced in 2016, has revolutionized India's payment systems, enabling instant, near real-time payments across multiple bank accounts. With over 1,330 crore UPI transactions in April alone, India's digital payments are poised for continued growth.

This growth is significant, especially when compared to North America, where cashless transactions are expected to grow by only 35% between 2025 and 2030. India's rapid adoption of digital payments is a global blueprint for how interoperable, real-time payment systems can transform economies worldwide.
