During its most recent airdrop event, the cross-chain protocol Wormhole made an initial allocation of tokens to wallets associated with one or more hackers who exploited vulnerabilities in the system back in 2022.

Notably, a pseudonymous crypto user identified as Pland on platform X pointed out that Wormhole overlooked the exclusion of the exploiter from the airdrop, citing addresses verified through the project's eligibility checker.

Approximately four addresses linked to the exploit received a distribution of over 31,600 W tokens, equivalent to about $38,000 in value. However, it's been reported by a source familiar with the matter that these tokens have since been retracted from the allocation.

These addresses were traced back to the individual responsible for siphoning 120,000 ETH from the interoperability protocol in 2022. At the time of the hack, the stolen amount amounted to approximately $323 million, marking it as one of the most significant breaches in the history of decentralized finance.

Despite this hiccup, Wormhole's airdrop event has garnered significant attention within the crypto community since its inception. Trading data from CoinGecko indicates that approximately $1.25 billion worth of W tokens have been traded since the commencement of the event.

The price of the W token experienced notable fluctuations, reaching a peak of $1.66 before settling at $1.21 at the time of this publication.
