Google has revealed the launch of an updated iteration of the Find My Device function, which is now accessible to Android users worldwide, initially rolling out in the United States and Canada. A standout feature of this upgrade is its capacity to locate devices even when they are not connected to the internet, eliminating the necessity for internet connectivity to track a smartphone or accessory.

The enhanced Find My Device is compatible with devices operating on Android 9 or above and leverages a collaborative network of all Android users to locate missing smartphones and accessories. This feature, akin to the Find My app on iPhones, is anticipated to enable users to identify their phone's whereabouts on a map within the app, even in offline scenarios.

Moreover, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro users have the ability to find their devices even if they are switched off or have a depleted battery. The updated Find My Device application also includes Bluetooth tracker tags from Chipolo and Pebblebee for tracking everyday items.

Another feature integrated into the function is the "Find nearby" capability, allowing users to precisely pinpoint the locations of nearby items. Additionally, users can share tracking capabilities for specific devices, such as TV remotes or house keys, with friends or family members to facilitate collaborative tracking and item retrieval efforts. Rest assured, all shared information is kept private and secure unless explicitly shared by the user.

Google emphasized that the Find My Device function places default importance on security, implementing various protective measures to ensure user safety and protect personal data. The application encompasses end-to-end encryption of location data within the network and incorporates a device location reporting feature to prevent unauthorized tracking, thus maintaining stringent privacy standards.
