The cryptocurrency market is abuzz with news that investment management firm VanEck has filed an application with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to create the first-ever Solana exchange-traded fund (ETF) in the United States.

According to the filing, VanEck has submitted a Form S-1 to register the Solana Trust, which would track the spot price of the Solana (SOL) cryptocurrency. If approved, the Solana ETF would be listed on the Cboe BZX Exchange.

Matthew Sigel, the head of digital asset research at VanEck, expressed excitement about the potential Solana ETF, stating that the firm believes the SOL token functions similarly to other digital commodities like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Sigel noted that SOL is used to pay for transaction fees and computational services on the Solana blockchain, much like how Ether is used on the Ethereum network.
