Optimism, a layer-2 (L2) network on Ethereum, is inviting layer-3 (L3) blockchains to join its Superchain. The Superchain is like a group of many blockchains that work together and share technology. It already has some successful L2 networks, such as OP Mainnet and Base.

L3 networks that join the Superchain can get benefits like money, free tokens, and help to grow. But they might need to change some things about how they work to fit in with the Superchain.

Optimism has added two new things to help L3 networks use its technology. One is custom gas tokens, which let L3 networks choose how much to charge for transactions. This makes it easier for them to join the Superchain. The other is plasma mode, which lets developers choose how they want to store their data. This can make it cheaper to start new networks.

L3 networks have become more popular lately, especially after one called Degen Chain did well. Optimism thinks these networks are important because they can help more developers use the Superchain. But some people, like Polygon's CEO, are worried that adding too many networks could make Ethereum less safe.

Some experts say we should focus on fixing problems with existing L3 networks before we make more. But Optimism and other L2 networks are still excited about bringing in new L3 networks to join the Superchain.
