Iran's recent decision to potentially block the Strait of Hormuz has introduced a new element to Middle East politics. The announcement came from Alirez Tangsiri, the leader of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Navy, who pointed to these regional tensions as reasons necessitating Tehran's firm reaction. Tangsiri emphasized the need for retaliation given the circumstances at hand.

Situated between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, the Strait of Hormuz is a vital route for global oil movements, with more than 85 vessels, including oil tankers, passing through daily.
