To combat this unfair practice, LayerZero has implemented a self-reporting mechanism that encourages transparency and honesty among users who may have resorted to Sybil tactics.

A Sybil attack is a type of attack in which an individual creates multiple fake identities or accounts to gain an unfair advantage over others. In the context of airdrops, Sybil attackers may create several accounts to claim a more significant share of the distributed tokens, undermining the intended purpose of airdrops, which is to incentivize early participation and reward genuine users who contribute to the network's growth.

LayerZero's self-reporting mechanism aims to counter Sybil activity by providing users who have engaged in such activities with a chance to come clean. Within a stipulated timeframe (previously announced as 14 days), Sybil participants could self-report their activity to LayerZero. This allows the project to identify and filter out illegitimate accounts and exclude them from receiving tokens.

By rewarding transparency and honesty, self-reporting users will still receive a portion of the tokens they would have received through Sybil tactics, albeit a smaller percentage (previously announced as 15%). This incentive is designed to encourage transparency and discourage users from exploiting the system in the first place.
