LayerZero Labs, a leading figure in blockchain innovation, has concluded the Sybil self-reporting phase of its solution to combat Sybil activity, commonly referred to as “airdrop farming.” The platform has officially announced on the X platform that the self-reporting phase has concluded, marking a significant step in addressing fraudulent account creation within the ecosystem.

During this phase, addresses meeting specific criteria are set to receive 15% of their anticipated token allocation, with the remaining 85% to be redistributed to eligible users. Following a meticulous review process, LayerZero has identified a total of 803,093 addresses as potential Sybil accounts. These identified addresses will not receive their full token allocation, signaling a proactive approach to mitigating fraudulent activities within the network.

Initially, the LayerZero team had identified over 2 million addresses as potential Sybils. However, through ongoing refinement of their criteria, they have achieved a more precise classification, minimizing the risk of false identifications and ensuring accuracy in the identification process.

The comprehensive list of addresses, comprising both self-reported accounts and those identified through initial examinations by LayerZero, Chaos Labs, and Nansen, has been made publicly available. This transparency underscores LayerZero's commitment to fostering a secure and trustworthy ecosystem for its users.

LayerZero introduced a self-reporting mechanism on May 3, offering Sybil users an opportunity to claim 15% of their planned token allocation by adhering to a defined 14-day reporting period. The platform clarified in its X post that the initial analysis primarily targeted industrial Sybil clusters, aimed at excluding large clusters from bounty hunting eligibility. However, the list is subject to refinement until the final report is published, allowing for potential adjustments to the identified addresses.

The Sybil bounty hunting process is set to commence on May 18th at 2:00 UTC and will run until May 31st, 23:59 UTC. Participants are required to report a minimum of 20 addresses along with a clear methodology to be eligible for a reward equivalent to 10% of the Sybil’s intended token allocation. Rewards will be allocated to the first eligible reporter for each reported address.

It is emphasized that while the team continues to refine their methods, the initial list remains unchanged during the bounty hunt period. Bounty hunters are encouraged to proceed with their efforts, with the assurance that the final, authoritative list will be shared upon the conclusion of the bounty hunt.

Sybil farming, the practice of creating multiple fake accounts to unfairly obtain tokens or rewards, has been a persistent challenge within the blockchain ecosystem. LayerZero's proactive approach to Sybil identification follows the initial snapshot taken on May 1, which was related to a potential airdrop distribution to community members.
