Recent addition of LinkedIn to its cyberwarfare toolkit by the Lazarus Group, a North Korean hacking group said to be controlled by the country's government, presents a fresh danger to users.

The organisation used phishing methods to target consumers while posing as Fenbushi Capital.

Today, April 29, the North Korean hacker collective Lazarus made headlines once more after SlowMist, a blockchain security company, exposed the gang for allegedly posing as Fenbushi Capital, an Asian venture capital company that invests in blockchain startups, in order to launch exploitation assaults.

The Lazarus organisation appears to have moved its attention to LinkedIn, a professional social networking site, in a blatant act of cyberwarfare, using advanced phishing techniques to trick unsuspecting members.

Notably, LinkedIn is now the main weapon in the Lazarus Group's armoury weapon for cyber attacks, further emerging as a new threat to users.

It’s worth mentioning that the hacker group recently started targeting crypto-background employees via LinkedIn as well, per reports by the abovementioned blockchain security firm.

Lazarus Group Impersonates Fenbushi Capital

In a post shared on X by the Chief Information Security Officer at Slow Mist, the security lead warned users against a fake account named ‘Nevil Bolson,’ designated as the Founding Partner at Fenbushi on LinkedIn.

To this, the CISO added that the original account goes by the name ‘Remington Ong,’ cautioning users not to engage in any activity surrounding the fake profile.

Intriguingly, the fake account used phishing schemes to deceive users in the name of investments and conferences, posting links on the professional networking site.

This adds up to the North Korean hacker group’s illicit activities, which have reportedly resulted in a loss of nearly $3 billion globally.

Lazarus Group’s Hacking Spree

Meanwhile, the Lazarus Group, a hacker group alleged to be run by the North Korean government, has been recorded to be partaking in numerous exploitation attacks over the past few days.

The group moved $12 million in Ether as of mid-March this year using Tornado Cash, a coin mixer. This move has further sent tongues wagging across the crypto landscape.

The native token of another currency mixer, Railgun (RAIL), meanwhile, looks to be in danger of losing value as a result of Lazarus's use of the platform for illegal purposes.

Together, these accounts highlight the difficulties associated with the cutting-edge technology known as blockchain, raising additional concerns among users about its capabilities even after it has been in use for some time.

Furthermore, as previously revealed by CoinGape Media, beginning of February of this year, the Lazarus organisation began using YoMix for cryptocurrency money laundering. This follows the takedown of another cryptocurrency mixer, Sinbad Mixer.
