Elizabeth Stark, CEO of Lightning Labs, unveiled groundbreaking developments hinting at the imminent integration of stablecoins onto the Bitcoin network during her presentation at FT Live’s Crypto and Digital Assets Summit in London.

In her address, Stark provided an insightful overview of Bitcoin Lightning, shedding light on the latest advancements in Bitcoin's leading layer 2 solution. She teased a new milestone in Bitcoin's evolution, driven by Lightning Labs' innovative Taproot assets protocol—a pivotal upgrade introduced to the network in late 2021.

"We released an early part of the code in October and recently demoed the first-ever transaction on Lightning of an asset. The idea is to have crypto dollars and stablecoins on the Bitcoin blockchain."
