GUM aims to integrate forex, stocks, real-world assets, and crypto into a single “state machine,” allowing transactions for minimal fees, as described by Jupiter’s pseudonymous founder, meow, on X.

Jupiter announced partnerships for its GUM Alliance, including market makers and real-world asset projects. In the coming months, Jupiter will collaborate with these partners to create liquid markets for more assets on Solana and integrate them into Jupiter. A pseudonymous Jupiter employee emphasized the potential of GUM to significantly expand the scope of crypto.

Jupiter is a DeFi app offering swaps and limit orders and acts as a DEX aggregator to find the best prices on swaps. GUM aims to add assets like credit, T-bills, and real estate to its listings. The idea of tokenizing assets for efficient global movement is gaining traction in both crypto and traditional finance, with BlackRock CEO Larry Fink among its proponents. Jupiter aims to be the first large-scale venue for tokenization, driven by the business motive of collecting fees on its products.

GUM’s goal is to create the "first unified market with sufficient critical mass of assets, liquidity, and users," meow explained. Tom Wan from 21.co called GUM a “brilliant” campaign to align market makers and tokenized asset issuers, addressing the chicken-and-egg problem of liquidity and asset tokenization.

Zeta Markets has released a litepaper for its "Zeta X" layer-2 solution, targeted for mainnet launch in early 2025. Zeta operates a DEX focused on crypto perpetuals trading, leveraging Solana’s scalability and low fees for a better trading experience. Although Solana already offers high scalability and low fees, Zeta aims to further customize trading to compete with centralized exchanges.

Zeta’s L2 solution will optimize block space and transaction processing, providing low-latency transactions and addressing higher costs on other networks. Unlike isolated rollups, Zeta's L2 will integrate closely with Solana to utilize its growing total value locked (TVL) and liquidity, akin to an appchain with CEX-level transaction speeds. This level of efficiency is challenging to achieve on networks like Ethereum, where transactions are costlier and require bundling to the base layer.
