Spark, a project by MakerDAO, has announced an 8% yield on DAI, marking the highest yield offered by a stablecoin issuer, a significant increase from the previous 3%. This offer is particularly notable as DAI ranks third globally among stablecoins. Yield refers to the interest rate users receive for holding their funds on a platform, akin to earning interest on savings account balances. By storing DAI on Spark, users can now earn an 8% yield on their holdings.

This announcement follows a substantial transaction where an individual wallet transferred 14.32 million DAI tokens to Spark, presumably to capitalize on the attractive yield opportunity. While Spark has not commented on the transaction, it suggests a strong interest from users in maximizing their returns.

Additionally, Spark has implemented restrictions on platform access via VPN (Virtual Private Networks) to prevent users from certain regions from exploiting its features. This move primarily affects users from the US and is considered unusual in the DeFi space, aimed at enforcing geographical restrictions. Spark displays a message to VPN users, directing them to contact the team via email if they encounter access issues, requiring them to provide their current IP address.

Spark's liquidity is derived from MakerDAO and accepts DAI, Ethereum, and staked Ether as collateral. Both DAI and ETH are performing well, with ETH nearing $2k and DAI hovering around $1, with expectations of surpassing $1 by year-end.

Existing and new users can now access Spark for an 8% yield, significantly increasing its attractiveness in the DeFi realm, albeit with heightened risk.
