As one of the country's largest public firms, GO Plc currently relies on AI models and tools to generate approximately 20% of its marketing content and to write about 30% of its code, thus reducing the dependency on developers within the company.

Rather than replacing humans entirely with AI, GO Plc uses AI to assist in various aspects of its operations. For instance, the company employs AI to draft legal contracts, which are then reviewed by humans before finalization. In its pursuit of digital transformation, GO encourages its 1,100-plus employees to acquire skills in generative AI to enhance productivity.

The company's inclination towards AI adoption is influenced by the challenging hiring conditions prevalent in Malta. As a small island nation in Southern Europe with a limited population of around 530,000 residents, Malta faces difficulties in accessing a diverse pool of skilled talent, as noted by Nikhil Patil, the CEO of GO.

Malta's strategic move towards embracing AI is guided by the EU's AI Act, aimed at regulating the development and application of AI technologies. This legislation requires companies utilizing AI to properly label AI-generated content and disclose summaries of the data used to train AI models, thus addressing concerns regarding the misuse of AI tools and the spread of misinformation.
