HSBC has invested in Marketnode, a digital market infrastructure operator created through a joint venture between Singapore Exchange (SGX) Group and the state-owned investment firm Temasek, which also contributed to the funding round. Marketnode develops distributed ledger technology (DLT) solutions for credit, funds, and structured products.

Marketnode operates two main platforms: Fundnode, which manages fund settlement, and another platform focused on the digital issuance, data management, and asset servicing of fixed-income and structured products. “Combining Marketnode’s FMI operational expertise with HSBC’s leading global platform offers a unique chance to shape the future of trusted and neutral market infrastructure,” said Rehan Ahmed, Marketnode’s president, on Thursday.

The Series A announcement on Thursday highlighted HSBC’s previous collaboration with Marketnode. Recently, they partnered with United Overseas Bank (UOB) to trial structured product issuance on a public blockchain as part of Project Guardian. HSBC was one of the first financial institutions to join Marketnode’s tokenized bond experiments, along with Citi, BNPP, and BNY Mellon.

“Our investment in Marketnode underscores our shared commitment to developing a robust multi-asset digital infrastructure across our markets, enabling our customers to safely and securely enter the digital asset space,” said Ian Glasner, HSBC’s group head of Innovation, Ventures, and Digital Partnerships. The announcement also noted that John O’Neill from HSBC will join Marketnode's board.
