Cryptocurrency investigator ZachXBT has unearthed a disturbing trend: a dozen meme coin projects launched on Solana have vanished into thin air, leaving investors holding the bag for a whopping $26.7 million.

This isn't just a case of a few bad bets. These projects, launched with much fanfare through controversial presales, raised a staggering 180,650 SOL ($26.7 million) before promptly disappearing.

False Promises, Big Losses

The story starts back in March, when the meme coin craze was in full swing. Investors, eager to jump on the bandwagon, poured money into these newly minted Solana projects. One such project, the aptly named "I Like This Coin" (LIKE), raised a cool $7.7 million from investors. But within eight hours of launch, the price had plummeted a staggering 90%. Today, LIKE is virtually worthless, and its creators haven't been heard from since March 31st.

This wasn't an isolated incident. Other meme coins like MOONKE and FROG followed a similar trajectory – raising millions, then vanishing without a trace. One project even "failed to launch" a token altogether, leaving investors with nothing but empty promises.

This situation highlights a dark side of the crypto world: the prevalence of scams. A recent study by Blockaid, a cybersecurity firm, found that a whopping 50% of presale tokens launched on Solana between November 2023 and February 2024 were malicious.
