Floki (FLOKI) and Memecoin (MEME) followed with losses of 3.3% and 3%, respectively. Even DOGE, the leading meme token by market capitalization, saw a 2.1% price decline, bringing its market cap to $22.74 billion.

The current market structure suggests that altcoins, including memecoins, are experiencing a correction after a significant rally. The Total3 chart, which tracks the total market capitalization of all cryptocurrencies excluding Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH), has formed a descending parallel channel, indicating a potential downtrend. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) on the weekly chart has also dropped from 89 to 62, suggesting that the market conditions favor the downside.

Furthermore, memecoin trading volumes have been declining since early March, with a collective drop of 81% from its recent top of roughly $998.55 million to $191.88 million the week ending May 3. This suggests that traders' interest or confidence in the sector has waned lately. Even the trading volumes of individual memecoins like DOGE, SHIB, and PEPE have plummeted by 50%, 88%, and 51%, respectively, between March 7 and May 6.

The strengthening of the U.S. economy and the decreasing possibility of interest cuts by the Federal Reserve in 2024 have also boosted risk-off sentiment in the crypto market, affecting memecoins more severely. As a result, investors may be taking profits they made on memecoins during the first quarter of 2024 to invest in other sectors of the crypto ecosystems

The current market dynamics suggest that the memecoin rally may be experiencing a correction, and the "meme season" might be coming to an end. As investors shift their focus to Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, memecoins may continue to experience a sell-off, and their prices may decline further.
