Mt. Gox creditors have received encouraging news regarding the reimbursement of hacked funds, as the Mt. Gox trustee has updated important repayment details.

Reports indicate that several Mt. Gox creditors have observed updates to their claims accounts, revealing information about the expected repayment of Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, and fiat currency. Many creditors interpret these updates as a sign that cryptocurrency reimbursements may be imminent.

The first reports of these updates emerged on the Mt. Gox insolvency subreddit in mid-April, with users sharing screenshots showing newly added repayment data to their accounts. The updated tables now display repayment status, completed and incomplete repayment amounts, and other relevant information.

One creditor shared their experience of receiving USD funds into an HSBC currency account with zero fees, noting that this payment arrived more than a month after the initial table update on their claims account. The creditor mentioned multiple updates to the table, with the latest occurring on April 18, coinciding with the arrival of Bitcoin funds.

This development is significant for Mt. Gox creditors, signaling the imminent disbursement of cryptocurrency or fiat currency. Comparisons have been drawn to a similar process in December, where Japanese claimants swiftly received fiat funds in their accounts following updates to their claims pages.

Established in 2010, Mt. Gox was once the largest Bitcoin exchange globally, handling an estimated 70% of all BTC transactions before its collapse. The platform suffered a security breach in 2014, resulting in the loss of 850,000 BTC.

Mt. Gox is expected to repay creditors 142,000 Bitcoin and 143,000 Bitcoin Cash, along with ¥69 billion ($510 million) in Japanese yen, by October 2024. The recent updates to repayment tables followed the completion of identity verification for Mt. Gox creditors and the linkage of their crypto exchange accounts, which will facilitate the repayment process through platforms such as Bitstamp, Kraken, Bitbank, BitGo, and SBI VC Trade.
