Nayib Bukele, known for his strong connection to Bitcoin, has been inaugurated as the president of El Salvador for 2024, revealing this information before the official announcement by the electoral body.

According to Bukele's tweet, he secured a significant victory in the presidential election, receiving 85% of the ballots and winning 58 out of 60 Assembly seats. Exit polls from CID Gallup indicate he garnered 87% of the total votes. Bukele's presidency is expected to continue until 2029 pending official confirmation.

Due to his efforts in combating gang crime, there is anticipation that Bukele will uphold his support for Bitcoin. His vice president, Felix Ulloa, recently affirmed the government's intention to uphold Bitcoin as legal tender if reelected.

Bukele spearheaded El Salvador's adoption of Bitcoin as legal tender in September 2021, leading the nation to purchase Bitcoin, resulting in a total value of $131 million by December 2023 and a profit of $3.6 million from these transactions.

In December, El Salvador introduced the Freedom Visa program, offering citizenship or residency to up to one thousand applicants annually in exchange for a one-million-dollar investment in Bitcoin or USDT. Similar to other countries' Golden Visa schemes, this program aims to attract investors seeking residency and citizenship.
