In a concerning development for the NFT community, an NFT trader recently fell prey to a phishing attack, resulting in the loss of over $145,000 worth of Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collectibles. The incident underscores the escalating threat posed by scam schemes within the cryptocurrency landscape.

On May 9, on-chain security platform PeckShield shed light on the fraudulent activities in a post, detailing the sequence of events. The attack unfolded on May 8, with three BAYC NFTs—BAYC 7531, BAYC 6736, and BAYC 2100—transferred from the victim's address (tatis.eth) to the phishing account

The perpetrator, identified as "Pink Drainer," swiftly absconded with the pilfered BAYC NFTs, subsequently liquidating them for a total of 48.5 ETH, equivalent to $145,000. The unauthorized sales occurred on prominent NFT marketplaces Seaport and Blur.

This incident follows a string of malicious activities plaguing the cryptocurrency space, with the same hacker group previously implicated in a December 2023 heist involving Chainlink (LINK) tokens valued at $4.4 million. Utilizing deceptive tactics, the hackers exploited the "IncreaseAllowance" function, coercing users into authorizing transactions that resulted in significant losses.

The fourth quarter of 2023 witnessed a surge in such nefarious activities, with notable instances including deceptive platforms mimicking NFT protocols like JPEG'd and attacks targeting liquidity solutions such as Flooring Protocol.
