Nigeria's Federal Government has responded to international concerns over the treatment of Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance executive detained in the country, asserting that he receives adequate medical care and full consular assistance. Mohammed Idris, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, issued a statement on Friday countering allegations of substandard prison conditions and health deterioration.

Idris emphasized that Gambaryan's detention is lawful and based on court orders, with provisions for necessary healthcare services despite his confinement. The rebuttal follows a visit by U.S. Congress members French Hill and Chrissy Houlahan to Gambaryan at the Kuje Detention facility, where they called for his release and posted a video on social media platform X.

"The Federal Government of Nigeria categorically denies allegations of unsavory prison conditions or declining health concerning Mr. Tigran Gambaryan," stated Minister Idris. "He enjoys full consular support and the protection of his fundamental rights, including access to healthcare and a fair judicial process."

Gambaryan’s wife, Yuki, has appealed to Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for his release, referencing recent legal developments involving the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) as a precedent. U.S. lawmakers echoed her plea, highlighting Gambaryan's career combating financial crimes, including a decade as an IRS Special Agent.

At a recent hearing, Abdulkadir Abbas of Nigeria's Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) reaffirmed Binance's lack of regulatory compliance in the country, as part of ongoing legal proceedings against the company and Gambaryan. The case is scheduled to resume on July 1 for further examination.

The Nigerian government affirmed its commitment to due process in addressing legal matters involving Binance, reflecting similar actions undertaken by jurisdictions worldwide.
