Nitrogen, a Celestia-based modular DA utilized as a public Arbitrum testnet, has recently launched. This testnet is the result of collaboration between Celestia, AltLayer, and Arbitrum.

AltLayer recently announced the release of Nitrogen in a tweet, highlighting its use of Celestia Blobstream and Arbitrum Nitro fraud proofs to integrate with Arbitrum Sepolia.

Developers can leverage Celestia through Nitrogen to deploy orbit chains, including smart contracts, with minimal setup time and overhead. Nitrogen utilizes Blobstream to relay commitments across the Celestia data root, which are then transmitted to an on-chain light client over Arbitrum and Ethereum, minimizing call data expenses.

A notable feature of Nitrogen mentioned by AltLayer is its Ethereum fallback mechanism, which ensures fund security and user peace of mind during network downtime by allowing Layer 2s and Layer 3s to fall back on Ethereum call data for DA.

AltLayer expressed gratitude to Automata Network for faucet assistance and expressed satisfaction in collaborating with Celestia.

The network provided a step-by-step guide for users to get started with the Nitrogen testnet:

1. Add the network to wallets from the Rollup Info Page.

2. Obtain Nitrogen Testnet ETH from the Public Faucet to use the network.

3. Bridge personal Testnet ETH to the Nitrogen testnet through the Arbitrum bridge interface by enabling Testnet Mode from Settings.

4. Copy the Nitrogen Testnet Orbit Chain data and add it as a Testnet Orbit Chain.

5. Bridge Sepolia Testnet ETH to the Arbitrum Sepolia testnet.

6. Wait for the bridge process to complete bridging the Arbitrum Sepolia Testnet ETH to the Nitrogen Testnet.

7. Start using the Nitrogen Testnet ETH on the testnet once the process is finished.
