Onboard, a self-custodial wallet has announced the expansion of its peer-to-peer (P2P) exchange service to Kenya. This expansion will allow users in Kenya to seamlessly convert their Kenyan Shillings to stablecoins and fund their Onboard USD Card.

“When we started Onboard, our goal was clear: to deliver world-class financial services, especially to people in frontier markets. Today, I'm proud of our P2P expansion to the Kenyan market, as it marks the start of us moving to another frontier, Onboard CEO Yele Bademosi said in a statement on X. “Wherever you are in the world, you can use Onboard Wallet to buy, sell and store crypto, or simply create a USD card you can fund with stablecoins. Our P2P service which allows you to easily move from your local currency to stablecoins is coming soon to a country near you,” he said

Onboard Wallet, which is gaining recognition as a global money app, provides an array of financial services to users in frontier markets, including Africa. The product houses a self-custodial wallet, virtual cards, a P2P exchange, and a web-based stablecoins off-ramp service. The ultimate aim of these offerings, Bademosi has reiterated, is to enhance financial accessibility for users in regions often underserved by traditional financial institutions.

During a previous interview with NODO last November, Bademosi revealed Onboard’s plan to commence a test campaign in Kenya to register P2P merchants to facilitate liquidity, enabling users to on-ramp and off-ramp in the East African country. A rapid expansion to other African countries would follow, Bademosi had told NODO. “We are starting slowly, but as we begin to have network effects, we'll be able to play in the intra-Africa trade, peer-to-peer, cross-border payment space,” he said.
