Despite a downturn in price, the user engagement levels on the Polkadot blockchain have skyrocketed to unprecedented heights, showcasing consecutive months of record-breaking active addresses. DotLake data reveals a remarkable surge with approximately 650,000 active addresses on-chain by the close of April, surpassing the prior peak of 605,000 in March. This substantial spike in activity is being celebrated by Polkadot as a significant milestone, signifying a surge in engagement and establishing a new all-time high for monthly active accounts following the introduction of parachains in 2022.

The surge in active addresses can largely be attributed to Moonbeam, a smart contract parachain that is Ethereum-compatible on the Polkadot network. During the evaluation period, Moonbeam accounted for over 60% of these addresses, totaling to 397,515, while Polkadot individually boasted 136,612 addresses. Moonbeam's Ethereum compatibility has garnered notable attention within the community, evident from data provided by Polkadot Insider, indicating the highest user acquisition among Polkadot's parachains in April.

Notwithstanding the positive performance metrics, Polkadot observed a slight decrease in the number of unique addresses holding non-zero balances, declining from 6.96 million in March to 6.8 million by the end of April. Moreover, the total number of transactions on the network experienced a minor dip, totaling 11.07 million in April, a slight decrease from the 11.5 million recorded in March.

However, even as user engagement soared, Polkadot's native token, DOT, did not mirror a comparable rise in price. The value of DOT has declined by over 20% in the past 30 days, currently resting at $6.9. This decline aligns with the broader crypto market trend, which has been struggling to surpass previous highs.

Renowned crypto analyst Michaël van de Poppe opines that Polkadot is undervalued and foresees a potential price surge with the upcoming JAM Upgrade, anticipated to augment the network's operational capabilities. This shift in perspective shines a light on the optimism surrounding Polkadot's future trajectory, potentially setting the stage for a renewed surge in adoption and price appreciation amid the evolving crypto landscape.
