According to the Web3 Foundation, the creators of Polkadot, StorageHub's core mission is to provide an effective, decentralized storage solution for web3 applications, enabling the storage of large files and datasets while maintaining decentralization.

StorageHub's development involves two main phases. The initial eight-month period focuses on foundational development, while the subsequent four-month phase concentrates on testing, auditing, and optimization to ensure reliability and seamless integration.

After the initial development phase, beta versions of StorageHub will be made available to the public for testing and feedback.

The platform is designed to seamlessly integrate with all Polkadot and Kusama parachains, enabling interoperability through cross-chain messaging (XCM), allowing users to interact with StorageHub directly or through existing parachains.

Decentralized storage provides an alternative to centralized systems, enhancing security, privacy, and scalability by distributing data across network nodes without relying on third-party data management.

As per CryptoSlate's data, the decentralized storage sector has reached a market capitalization of $7.5 billion, with Filecoin and Arweave being the dominant blockchains.
