The Polygon Network Sustainability Dashboard showcases crucial data such as electricity consumption, carbon emissions, and sustainability metrics aligned with the evolving Markets in Crypto Assets Regulation (MiCA) guidelines. Funded by CCRI, the dashboard aims to enhance the existing Polygon PoS mechanism and extend tracking to Polygon zkEVM.

This initiative follows Polygon Labs' commitment to sustainability outlined in the Green Manifesto of 2022. The development of the Polygon Network Sustainability Dashboard underscores Polygon Labs' ongoing dedication to sustainability, encompassing various sustainability initiatives such as statistics highlighting the climate impact on Layer 2 and base layer (L1) operations.

Introducing an address-based emissions calculation and adopting a balanced approach to MiCA metrics, the dashboard offers flexibility by enabling users to toggle between framework components. Polygon Labs remains steadfast in its mission to accelerate climate action and preserve the environment for future generations.

Continual upgrades are planned for the dashboard and Polygon protocols, including Polygon Miden and Polygon CDK, with a primary focus on enhancing knowledge of the electricity sources powering the Polygon network.

Preliminary research conducted by Polygon PoS indicates that 35% of users utilize AWS cloud services, while 22% use Hetzner, with both companies demonstrating commitments to renewable energy sources.

The Polygon Network Sustainability Dashboard employs a location-based approach for calculating carbon footprint, as suggested by the GHG Protocol, ensuring transparency regarding emissions associated with electricity consumption. Additionally, the dashboard explores the market-based approach, essential for disclosing emissions linked with purchased electricity.

By implementing the market-based method, Polygon PoS achieves an 80% reduction in carbon footprint compared to the land-based approach, showcasing a commitment to renewable energy utilization.

Polygon Labs is actively gathering data to support the market-based approach and exploring avenues to assist validators in transitioning to renewable energy sources.
