Polygon has introduced a significant initiative by establishing a $720 million Community Treasury designed to support blockchain projects over the next decade. This initiative aims to assist developers within both the Polygon and Ethereum ecosystems. The treasury's fund will initially allocate 35 million Polygon tokens (MATIC), valued at approximately $25 million, to the Community Grants Program (CGP) for its first season.

Details of the Community Treasury

Formed through community consensus, the Community Treasury plans to distribute around 100 million Polygon ecosystem tokens (POL) annually, reaching a total of one billion POL tokens over ten years. The inaugural season features two tracks for project builders: the General Grant Track and the Consumer Crypto Track.

The General Grant Track is open to all projects without stringent eligibility requirements, though Polygon has expressed interest in specific areas such as decentralized applications (DApps), developer tools and libraries, and protocol infrastructure.

Ajit Tripathi, a board member of the Polygon Community Treasury, highlighted the inclusive nature of the first season, which accepts a wide range of project types through its general grants track. Application and Grant Allocation Process

The CGP's inaugural season is open for applications from June 11 until August 31. Eligible projects must be built on Polygon or willing to migrate to it, demonstrating long-term viability. Grants will range from 5,000 to over 50,000 MATIC, with the Community Treasury Board overseeing the project selection process on a monthly basis.
