Polyhedra Network, the developer behind zkBridge, has introduced a temporary staking program in the wake of resolving a trademark dispute related to the "ZK" term. The staking initiative offers participants the opportunity to earn rewards in ETHFI, ID, and CYBER tokens, collectively valued at $1.13 million in USDT.

Announced via a Notion post, the four-week staking event invites token holders to stake their ZKJ tokens in exchange for rewards. Participants must stake their tokens for a minimum of one week, with those aiming for a $100 reward required to stake 1,000 ZKJ tokens, approximately valued at $1,110 based on current market prices. The staking program is scheduled to run until July 11.

The launch of the staking program follows recent developments in the trademark dispute involving Matter Labs, the entity behind the zkSync layer-2 solution. Matter Labs decided to withdraw its trademark applications for the "ZK" term after facing criticism from senior ZK researchers and the broader crypto community. This decision came in response to concerns raised about the implications of claiming exclusive intellectual property rights over innovations related to zero-knowledge proofs (ZK).

The dispute arose when Matter Labs filed trademark applications for "ZK," prompting backlash from Polyhedra Network, which was already using the ticker "ZK" for its token. Polyhedra Network subsequently rebranded its token as "ZKJ" and condemned Matter Labs' actions as antithetical to the principles of blockchain innovation.

Matter Labs defended its trademark filings as necessary to protect terms like "ZK Sync" and "ZK Stack," associated with its projects, from potential misuse or confusion. However, the resolution of the trademark dispute has paved the way for Polyhedra Network to proceed with its staking program, signaling a positive outcome for the community.
