Primitives Protocol, along with its SDK, aims to empower developers to build consumer-facing crypto applications on Solana. Their goal is to deliver top-tier decentralized social user experiences, with the aim of attracting a new wave of users to the blockchain.

When they launched the beta version of the Primitives web application in 2022, they envisioned a future where owning internet access equated to owning a wallet. They foresaw a time when financially connected communities could seamlessly engage with tokens. Given the complexity and cost associated with mainstream wallet adoption, they set out to create the simplest user experience in crypto through the Primitives application.

Initially focused on art collecting, Primitives provided users with a non-custodial wallet, an NFT as identification, and instructions to acquire additional NFTs. Over 150,000 art pieces were minted via their cameras in a year and a half.

Choosing Solana was strategic due to its fast and cost-effective transactions, essential for creating consumer adoption in crypto. However, building social experiences on the blockchain posed challenges such as transaction settlement times and congestion. To address these issues, Primitives prioritized creating a framework for their SDK to streamline blockchain processes for social applications.

Primitives also established a minting factory to simplify NFT minting for developers and leveraged Solana's compressed NFTs, which significantly reduce minting costs. By combining their main application with compressed NFTs on Solana, Primitives initiated the development of an interoperable protocol where users own their data on-chain and developers can create various applications and games.
