A survey conducted by the Digital Currency Group and the Harris Group sheds light on the sentiments of voters in key swing states in the United States regarding the financial system and cryptocurrency. The study, which polled 1,201 individuals across six swing states, aimed to gauge attitudes towards the current financial system and the potential role of cryptocurrency as a solution. Notably, swing states are those where either the Democratic or Republican Party could secure victory in a statewide election.

The survey results revealed that while a significant majority of respondents acknowledged the outdated nature of the current financial system, there was skepticism about whether cryptocurrency could offer a viable alternative. Despite 70% of participants agreeing that the financial system requires an overhaul, only a third believed that crypto could address this issue. Moreover, while four out of five respondents expressed concerns about the current system favoring elites over ordinary citizens, nearly 75% did not perceive cryptocurrency as being more equitable.

Interestingly, there was a notable disparity in responses between individuals who currently own or have previously owned cryptocurrency and those who have not. Over 90% of current crypto owners expressed intentions to either increase their holdings or maintain their portfolios in the next six months, contrasting sharply with the mere 7% of non-crypto owners planning to invest in the asset class during the same period. Additionally, approximately 76% of voters with crypto holdings reported a positive impact on their financial well-being.

The survey, conducted online over a 10-minute period between April 4 and 16, 2024, targeted residents of Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Montana, Pennsylvania, and Arizona. Participants were required to be at least 18 years old, registered voters residing in the United States. Furthermore, the findings revealed a lack of trust among swing voters towards political candidates who exhibit interference or a lack of understanding regarding cryptocurrency developments, underscoring the importance of informed policy approaches in this domain.
