In a remarkable achievement, Pudgy Penguins NFT collection has announced sales of over 1 million toys in the last year, with its CEO Luca Schnetzler revealing the milestone on May 13. This comes as the project expands its presence in stores worldwide, with the latest partnership being with US retail giant Target.

Pudgy Penguins, launched in 2021, features 8,888 unique penguin avatars and has gained immense popularity, partly due to Walmart selling stuffed penguins. Despite early challenges, Schnetzler acquired the brand in 2022 for $2.5 million and has since implemented a business model where NFT holders earn 5% royalties on physical product sales featuring their distinct Pudgy Penguin.

According to OpenSea, the NFT versions have a floor price of 12.87 ETH ($37,580), with Penguin #6873 being the most expensive recent sale at 400 ETH ($1.17 million). At its peak in February, the collection sold 439 units daily at an average price of 20 ETH, although sales have slowed down to around 269 per day as of May 6.
