Sam Gellman, known in the NFT community as NFT Statistics or punk9059, is a prominent figure celebrated for his adeptness in crafting insightful charts and analyses within the volatile NFT market.

In 2023, Gellman collaborated with Proof and hosted the widely acclaimed "Proof Daily Countdown," a concise 10-15 minute broadcast catering to devout followers of the NFT movement.

Following the recent acquisition of Proof and Moonbirds, Gellman has reunited with longtime acquaintance Ray Chan at Memeland, marking a significant milestone in his career spanning over 12 years.

Gellman's journey into the realm of NFTs commenced amidst the fervor of 2021 when several of his TradFi (Traditional Finance) associates encouraged him to explore CryptoPunks. Initially hesitant, Gellman eventually succumbed to curiosity, delving deep into the intricacies of the NFT landscape and immersing himself in its complexities.

"During the Covid pandemic, they aggressively advocated for CryptoPunks. Initially, I dismissed their enthusiasm, but as more people endorsed it, I started experiencing FOMO," recalls Gellman.

"That's when I began my involvement in the NFT scene, realizing the scarcity of available data on CryptoPunks. I took it upon myself to compile comprehensive datasets, laying the foundation for my venture into NFT Statistics."

Before assuming the moniker "NFT Statistics," Gellman held pivotal roles at Goldman Sachs for eight years and Uber for seven. At Uber, he was instrumental in the company's expansion into international markets, particularly in Asia, leveraging his expertise to spearhead operations in regions like London, Amsterdam, and China.

Interestingly, prior to his deep dive into NFTs, Gellman briefly ventured into the crypto space but found himself at odds with its prevailing ethos, ultimately departing due to a misalignment with its anti-establishment philosophy.

"I wasn't particularly aligned with the anti-establishment sentiment prevalent in parts of the crypto culture. I found fulfillment in both Goldman Sachs and Uber, which created a disparity between my beliefs and the industry's ethos," explains Gellman.

Contrary to the notion of being early adopters, Gellman perceives the crypto landscape akin to a deeply entrenched belief system, suggesting that the industry's evolution has progressed significantly over the years.

"We're not necessarily in the early stages. Bitcoin has been in existence for 15 years, which may seem early to some, but blockchain predates major tech disruptors like Airbnb and Uber. With billions invested in the technology, it demands our respect," remarks Gellman.

Drawing an analogy, Gellman describes crypto as the "most volatile religion in the world," highlighting the fervent evangelism exhibited by its proponents, juxtaposed with skeptics who view the space with disdain. Positioned between these extremes, Gellman finds credibility in his impartial stance, navigating the intricate dynamics of the crypto landscape with adeptness and insight.
