Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse revealed the name of the company's forthcoming stablecoin during the XRP Ledger Community Summit (XRPL Apex) in Amsterdam. In a panel discussion, Garlinghouse disclosed:

"The name of the Ripple stablecoin is RLUSD; I like to call it Real USD or Ripple USD."

While Garlinghouse did not specify the launch date, he expressed optimism about the project, noting its alignment with the broader XRP ecosystem. RLUSD will function as a dollar-pegged stablecoin available on both the XRP Ledger and Ethereum.

This announcement follows Ripple's recent appointment of Jack McDonald, CEO of the newly acquired Standard Custody, as Senior Vice President of Stablecoins.

Additionally, RippleX, Ripple’s development arm, has announced the development of the XRPL EVM Sidechain. This initiative aims to integrate Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility into the XRP Ledger (XRPL), facilitating opportunities for developers in DeFi and real-world asset tokenization. The XRPL EVM sidechain will utilize wrapped XRP (eXRP) as its native asset and gas token, connected to the XRPL mainnet via a bridge. The Axelar bridge will serve as the primary bridge, supporting seamless asset transfers and enhancing interoperability with the XRPL mainnet. Ripple's engineering team will collaborate with Peersyst to optimize XRPL’s interoperability, leveraging Axelar's established track record with integrations such as Uniswap and Microsoft.
