Russian authorities are considering imposing substantial fines on suspected cryptocurrency miners operating from residential properties, aiming to address rising cases of power outages. Amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses may also be included to hold accountable those misusing electricity.

The proposed measures target private crypto miners who are allegedly illicitly accessing the national grid, with fines calculated based on commercial rates typically applied to industrial enterprises. Andrei Romanchuk, deputy chairman of the board of the Association “Reliable Partner,” mentioned potential tools for Russian engineers to combat unauthorized mining, hinting at amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses to tackle electricity misuse.

Sergey Bezdelov, director of the Association of Industrial Mining, expressed support for measures fostering the development of industrial mining in Russia, suggesting checks by sales companies to legitimize the market. While crypto mining holds economic importance for Russia, officials like Romanchuk advocate for regulation to maximize its benefits.
