Samsung has introduced the first LPDDR5X DRAM in the industry, boasting speeds of up to 10.7 Gbps and setting a new standard for performance. This achievement is made possible through cutting-edge 12 nanometer (nm)-class process technology, enabling Samsung to achieve not only superior performance but also the smallest chip size among existing LPDDR offerings.

YongCheol Bae, Executive VP of Memory Product Planning at Samsung, stated, "With the increasing demand for low-power, high-performance memory, LPDDR DRAM is expected to find applications beyond mobile devices, including PCs, servers, accelerators, and automobiles."

As on-device AI capabilities become increasingly crucial, the need for memory solutions like LPDDR, which offer both low power consumption and high performance, is emphasized.

The new 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X from Samsung provides a performance increase of over 25 percent and a capacity boost of more than 30 percent compared to its predecessor. It addresses the evolving requirements of on-device AI with its optimal solution for high-capacity, high-performance, and energy-efficient memory needs. Mobile DRAM single package capacity has been expanded up to 32 gigabytes, marking a significant milestone for mobile and on-device AI applications.

Moreover, the LPDDR5X incorporates advanced power-saving technologies, including optimized power variation that dynamically adjusts energy usage based on workload and expanded low-power mode intervals to extend energy-saving periods. These improvements collectively enhance power efficiency by 25 percent over the previous generation, resulting in longer battery life for mobile devices and reduced energy consumption for servers, thus lowering the total cost of ownership.

Samsung expects to begin mass production of the 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X by the second half of 2024, following comprehensive verification processes with mobile application processor (AP) and mobile device manufacturers.
