While refraining from commenting on specific companies, Gensler underscored the broader issue within the crypto asset field, suggesting that many tokens might be classified as securities according to existing legal interpretations.

The Wells Notice issued to Robinhood Crypto is part of a series of notices served against crypto entities over the past month. ConsenSys, the firm behind MetaMask Wallet, and decentralized exchange Uniswap also disclosed receiving similar notices from the SEC. Additionally, the SEC is engaged in legal battles with major crypto exchanges such as Binance and Coinbase, underscoring the regulatory challenges facing the crypto industry.

One of the key questions raised during the discussion was the classification of ether, the native cryptocurrency of the Ethereum network, as either a security or a commodity.
