The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has given the green light to the first-ever spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs), marking a significant achievement for the cryptocurrency sector. This announcement, made today, permits asset managers such as Grayscale, Fidelity, and Bitwise to introduce ETFs directly tied to the price of Ethereum (ETH).

In response to the news, Ethereum experienced a 2% increase and was trading at $3,900 at the time of the press, according to data from CryptoSlate.

The approval follows a thorough application process and comprehensive market analysis. Craig Salm, Grayscale's Chief Legal Officer, previously underscored that the SEC had already addressed crucial issues during the approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs, which are pertinent to Ethereum ETFs as well. These concerns encompass creation and redemption processes, cash versus in-kind transactions, and custody matters.
